India does not have a universal/mandatory screening programme for breast and cervical cancer. Women in many parts of the country are not aware of the need for screening.
To improve this awareness, we at Penn Nalam conduct awareness programmes for women from all walk of life.
The programme involves gathering a large group of women, and explaining the importance of preventive health care, what is cancer, how is develops and progresses and screening methods available. They are also given talks are breast self-examination, picking up early warning signs and when to seek help.
This is done in schools, colleges, IT companies, villages, anganwadis and so on.
Screening is done with audio-visual aids, pamphlets are distributed, and at times we use puppetry, skits, mimes are used.
You can support the spreading of women’s health and cancer screening awareness but donating towards awareness programmes.
